WHY NATURE SUPPORTS MENTAL WELLBEING FOR PARENTS & BABIES
Spending time in nature has been found to help with mental health challenges including anxiety and depression which new parents can experience.
Recent research has shown that 1 in 5 new mothers experience mental health issues after birth and 1 in 10 new fathers experience post-natal depression.
Babies are curious about everything and so nature provides an abundance of learning experiences that support babies' brain development.
A relaxed parent helps to relax a baby so having time in nature helps babies grow in a more relaxed environment
Sensory interaction creates the potential for synaptic connections to be made in the baby's brain. Every sense can be activated in nature and babies can learn about the world
Exposure to natural microbes and spores in the forest may help to boost a baby's immune system supporting a healtheir childhood
Nature can provide a nurturing environment to support mental wellbeing
There are numerous benefits of parents getting together outside in nature such as helping to:
-
improve mood

Benefits of Babywearing
Babywearing means you can respond to your baby's needs whilst having your hands free. Additionally, babywearing helps parent and baby to bond and create secure attachments:
-
It aids the baby’s digestion which can help with reflux and colic.
-
Helps parents become more attuned to their baby's needs by being close and watching their cues.
-
Helps babies to grow confident and aware of their surroundings.
-
Helps to decrease the risk of the baby developing Plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome)
